Eligibility is categorized into different parameters, such as age, education, nationality, and medical fitness. Let’s look at them in detail.

1. Age Limit for IMU CET

• For UG Programs (like B.Tech, B.Sc, DNS):

   

  • Candidates should be minimum 17 years old and maximum 25 years on the exam date.

     

  • A relaxation of 5 years is provided for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories.

     

• For PG Programs (like MBA, M.Tech):

   

  • There is generally no strict upper age limit, but candidates must hold valid graduation degrees as per eligibility norms.

     

👉 Age is one of the first filters in IMU CET eligibility, so students should check this before applying.

2. Educational Qualification for IMU CET

The academic qualifications differ for each program:

(a) For B.Tech (Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering):

• Must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).

   

• Minimum aggregate of 60% marks in PCM.

   

• Minimum 50% marks in English at either Class 10 or Class 12 level.

   

(b) For B.Sc (Nautical Science / Ship Building & Repair):

• Passed 10+2 with PCM and at least 60% aggregate.

   

• English should not be less than 50% marks.

   

(c) For Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS):

• Passed 10+2 with PCM (60%) and English (50%).

   

• Or, a candidate with a B.Sc degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Electronics with at least 60% aggregate is also eligible.

   

• Or, a candidate with B.E./B.Tech degree from a recognized university with at least 60% marks.

   

(d) For MBA Programs:

• A bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate.

   

• A valid score in IMU CET.

   

(e) For M.Tech Programs:

• A bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture/Civil Engineering or related fields.

   

• Minimum 60% aggregate marks.

3. Medical Fitness Criteria

One of the unique aspects of maritime careers is the strict medical fitness requirements. To qualify:

• Candidates must be physically fit and meet medical standards prescribed by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India.

   

• Vision Standard:

   

  • For Nautical Science and Marine Engineering, candidates must have unaided vision of 6/12 in each eye.

     

  • Normal color vision is mandatory.

     

• A medical certificate issued by a DGS-approved doctor is compulsory before admission.

   

👉 Even if you meet academic criteria, failing medical tests can make you ineligible for admission.

4. Nationality Criteria

• Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for IMU CET.

   

• Some NRI and foreign students may also be admitted under special categories, but general admissions are restricted to Indian nationals.
